PRCS: Organizing home visits for wounded in Rafah

(Gaza - 16/7/2018):  To assist the hundreds of Palestinians directly targeted along Gaza’s eastern borders, PRCS’ branch in Rafah has launched a program aimed at providing emergency services and medical treatment to the wounded and especially to those with severe injuries. Within this program, a medical team organizes home visits and receives patients at the branch’s clinic. Services offered include changing wound dressings as well as providing psychological support and referral services.

According to Jihad Abed, Director of the Society’s branch in Rafah, “this program aims at allaying the suffering of the huge number of unarmed civilians targeted by the Israeli occupation during peaceful March of Return protests”. The Society’s medical team comprises one doctor and five nurses as well as two psychologists and a physiotherapist. Medical supplies are provided by PRCS’ Al Amal hospital in Khan Younis.

According to Psychologist and Program Coordinator Hamada Al Najjar, “the branch’s medical clinic was established less than 2 years ago and has already treated 42 Palestinians wounded during March of Return peaceful protests. Home visits have also been organized to 45 other patients who are regularly monitored by the team”.

Nassr Al Houbi (28) was shot in the left foot with live ammunition. “I was in terrible pain because the wound got infected. The nearest hospital is far from my home and is overcrowded. Then the Society’s team started visiting me at home. They cleaned and dressed my wound and treated the infection. Now, I can walk again. This would not have happened without the help of PRCS”, he said.
