(Al Bireh -13/7/2014): The PRCS condemns Israel’s direct attack on Mabra Al-Rahma Organization for people with disabilities in Gaza city on Friday (11/7/2014); which resulted in the death of Hala Wishahi (31 years old) and Suha Abu Sa'dah (38 years old), in addition to four casualties.
The PRCS indicates that this continuous attack on the Gaza Strip may result in a significant increase in the number of disabled individuals. This attack on Al Mabra organization by the Israeli occupation breaks International Law as it was aimed directly at an organization that works with individuals who are physically handicapped.
The PRCS emphasizes that the Israeli attack was a clear violation of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which states that an environment and a condition of peace and security based on full respect of the purpose and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, must be provided. In addition, the respect of human rights are indispensable, in order to provide full protection for individuals with disabilities, particularly in situations of armed conflict and foreign occupation.
The PRCS calls on all human rights organizations around the world, especially those concerned with the rights of persons with disabilities, to intervene immediately and compel the Israeli occupation forces to respect its commitments, especially those towards disabled individuals.
