With The Participation of 68 Volunteers: PRCS Concludes the National Disaster Response Camp in Bani Na’im

(Ramallah- 30/10/2014): PRCS concluded the ten day training camp held in the Bani Na’im wilderness (South of Hebron) to train its National Disaster Response Team. 68 volunteers at the Society’s Disaster Management Unit from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, participated in the camp, receiving intensive theoretical and practical disaster management training.

Bashir Ahmad, Head of the PRCS’ Disaster Management Unit, said the camp covered several topics from both a theoretical and a practical point of view. These topics included Rapid Assessments, information and health in times of disaster, water and sanitation, shelter, supplies, Relief Appeals, Operations Room management, Sphere Standards, distribution of relief items and coordination of humanitarian aid.

Held in the framework of both the Society’s Strategy and the National Strategy for Disaster Response, the camp aimed at forming a team of qualified and trained volunteers capable of responding to natural and man-made disasters alike. The Bani Na’im wilderness (approx. 9 kilometers to the East of Bani Na’im) was chosen to host the camp because the area allows for the simulation of a natural disaster zone and is thus suitable for putting theories into practice.
