(Gaza - 8/2/2015): A one-week camp organized by PRCS for the National Disaster Response Team started on February 7th at Al Zahra'a city in the Gaza Strip with the participation of PRCS' staff and volunteers from the Gaza Strip.
The camp is to cover several topics from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, including the provision of shelter, water, sanitation and health services in times of disaster. Among the other topics discussed are logistical support, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Safer Access, prevention and safety, drills, Mobile Medical Units, evacuation as a part of disaster-management, psychosocial health and reaching people with disabilities during emergencies.
Held under the supervision of a specialized team comprising staff from the PRCS' Disaster Management Unit, operation coordinators and Heads of PRCS' Departments in the Gaza Strip, this camp is the second of its kind to be organized in the Gaza Strip. It aims at forming a qualified, specialized and efficient national team that is ready to respond to emergencies and capable of intervening in times of disaster in order to ensure the provision of the best health and humanitarian services to local communities.
On the camp's first day, participants erected tents, installed water and sanitation facilities and prepared classrooms and training areas to host a series of specialized rapid response-related events that are to take place during this camp.
