(Gaza- 8122015): PRCS marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities which is commemorated on the 3rd of December every year.
To this end, several recreational and educational activities were held at the Society’s Extracurricular Activities Center in Khan Younes, including a march for persons with disabilities that started at Al Amal City for Capacity Development and ended at Khan Younes Municipality.
Dr. Jean Calder, Dean of the PRCS’ Capacity Development College, Jihad Abou Hatab, Administrative Director, and Hassan Nassar, Director of the Rehabilitation Center took part in the march alongside numerous persons with disabilities.
They were all warmly received by Mr. Yihya Al Astal, Mayor of Khan Younes, who highlighted his Municipality’s support of persons with disabilities in order to meet their needs and improve their lives. Dr. Calder lauded the role played by persons with disabilities as an integral part of society. She called for their full integration and engagement in their communities.
Other events included a marathon, a mural reflecting this Day, trips to Asda’ City for the Center’s beneficiaries, a Sports’ Day as well as educational campaigns about persons with disabilities held in public elementary schools. A central celebration was finally held at the Dr. Fathi Arafat Hall in Al Amal City.
PRCS has always marked the International Day for Persons with Disabilities as a means to promote the rights of disabled persons and to help achieve their full integration in their communities.
