Gaza Strip - 29/5/2016: PRCS inaugurated today an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Centre in Al Karara, Khan Younis (Gaza Strip). The Centre is named after martyr Mohamad Al Abadleh, a PRCS’ volunteer who fell in the line of duty during the 2014 Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib, PRCS’ Director General Dr. Khaled Joudeh, the Mayor of Al Karara Engineer Abdel Rahim Al Abadleh, Mr. Yigit Olcay, the head of the Turkish Red Crescent Office in the Gaza Strip, and several local officials and civil society representatives from Khan Younis Governorate.
In his speech, Al Khatib said this new centre aims at ensuring the provision of PRCS’ emergency services to local residents, both sick and wounded, in a timely manner. It also honors martyr Al Abadleh who fell in the line of duty while working alongside PRCS’ teams in Al Karara in 2014.
Al Khatib also expressed his appreciation to the Turkish Red Crescent Society, which supported this centre, and to Al Karara Municipality which provided the necessary space and helped ensure the success of this project.
Engineer Abdel Rahim Al Abadleh, Mayor of Al Karara, thanked PRCS for this centre which is to provide emergency services to around 25 000 people in Al Karara.
Mr. Olcay noted that this singular endeavour is part of continuous cooperation between his National Society and PRCS with a view to expanding PRCS’ health and emergency medical services and increasing the number of people who benefit therefrom. This cooperation is vital and must continue, he added.
Dr. Al Khatib, accompanied by several PRCS’ volunteers, had earlier on distributed humanitarian aid to 250 families whose homes were completely destroyed in Al Shaja’iyeh. This aid is part of a relief project supported by the Turkish Red Crescent Society and aimed at offering assistance to approximately 5000 families this year.
