(Al-Bireh - 3/7/2017): PRCS concluded phase I of its campaign for better hearing which featured hearing tests, ear checks and the fitting of hearing aids. Held in partnership with US-based Starkey Hearing Foundation, phase I (29 June -2 July) reached out to 910 patients in both Salfit and Ramallah and featured ear checks, hearing tests and hearing aid measurements. Phase II is to take place next August when phase I patients will receive their hearing-aids.
60 PRCS’ staff and volunteers, 3 Starkey employees and several Birzeit University students majoring in Audiology and Speech Therapy helped implement this campaign.
The campaign was held as part of the Partnership Agreement between PRCS and Starkey Hearing Foundation which aims at providing hearing-aids to patients in Ramallah, Jerusalem, Jericho, Salfit, Khan Younes and Rafah as well as in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. A similar campaign was held in Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon last May to the benefit of 100 refugees.
A PRCS’ team had been trained by the Foundation in Jordan in February 2017. PRCS also took part in a similar 5-day campaign organized in Mauritania in April during which 1850 patients were examined.
End.
