(Al-Bireh - 10/8/2017): PRCS concluded phase II of its campaign for better hearing which featured hearing tests, ear checks and the fitting of hearing aids. Held in partnership with US-based Starkey Hearing Foundation, the campaign reached out to patients in both Salfit and Ramallah Governorates with 1090 patients benefiting from hearing-aids.
Patients under ten years of age were referred to PRCS’ Hearing Unit for special fittings and additional care. Each beneficiary received an extra hearing aid as well as enough batteries for 4 months. Training was also provided on how to use and protect hearing-aids. Approximately 2000 hearing aids were distributed.
65 PRCS’ staff and volunteers, 3 Starkey employees, 12 Birzeit University students majoring in Audiology and Speech Therapy as well as 23 staff from Starkey, including Mr. William Austin, Founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation, helped implement this campaign. Phase I of the campaign (June 2017) had featured initial hearing tests and hearing aid measurements.
