(Al-Bireh – 12/12/2018): PRCS marked its 50th anniversary today with a huge march held under the auspices of President Mahmoud Abbas. The march started at the Yasser Arafat Memorial, passed Al Manara Square in Ramallah and ended at the Society’s headquarters in Al-Bireh.
Many officials, community leaders, PRCS’ staff and volunteers from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, as well as Presidents and Secretary Generals of sister RCRC National Societies took part in the march held under the banner “50 Years Serving Humanity… The Dream Continues”.
PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib took the floor at Al Manara Square: “Allow me to reaffirm on this 50th anniversary that we will continue to serve humanity with your support and generosity. It is thanks to your efforts that PRCS saw the light in 1968. You should be proud of what PRCS has achieved over all these years of struggle for freedom and independence, whether it be in Beirut, in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip during the two Intifadas, or during the Israeli aggressions against the Gaza Strip".
He added: "You have spearheaded this movement and have played a major role in healing the wounds of our people. PRCS’ staff and volunteers will continue to work hand in hand with all Palestinians to build the free State of Palestine. It is in Jerusalem that the first stone of what would become PRCS was laid in 1910 and the Society has been working ever since to unite Palestinians everywhere”.
At the end of the march, Al Khatib thanked participants and especially international guests who took part in this important event.
The march featured performances by the Marching Bands of the Palestinian National Security Forces and of Al Istiqlal University. Balloons carrying the Society’s 50th anniversary logo were also released.
End.
