(Ramallah – 26/3/2019): A team of Special Olympics athletes from PRCS competed under the Palestinian flag and alongside other Palestinian athletes at the Special Olympics World Games held in Abu Dhabi from March 8 – 21, 2019. The Games were held under the motto “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt”.
The Palestinian delegation comprised 40 athletes, coaches and Administrative Officials, including 10 PRCS’ athletes, 4 coaches and a Medical and Administrative Official. A total of 7500 athletes from 192 countries took part in the Games.
Palestinian athletes competed in the following disciplines: table tennis, bocce, badminton, swimming, athletics, powerlifting and cycling. They won 30 medals (8 gold, 8 silver and 14 bronze), 19 of which were secured by PRCS’ athletes as follows: Bocce (6 gold and 5 silver medals); cycling (1 gold and 1 bronze medals); badminton (1 gold and 2 bronze medals); and table tennis (1 silver and 2 bronze medals).
