During a visit by the Director of the MENA Zone at the IFRC: PRCS and IFRC discuss means to enhance cooperation
Al Bireh- PRCS President Dr. Younis Al Khatib and Abdelkarim Bensiali, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Zone at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies discussed means to enhance cooperation between the two parties, especially in relation to PRCS interventions in the Gaza Strip. These talks were held during a visit by Mr. Bensiali on the 18th of January to PRCS Headquarters in Al Bireh, where he met with Dr. Al Khatib and with a number of PRCS Department Directors who provided him with information on PRCS services and programs.
Dr. Al Khatib accompanied his guest on a tour to PRCS facilities and to the hospital it operates in Al Bireh. He briefed him on PRCS programs, objectives and future plans; the key services it provides to Palestinians in the homeland and the Diaspora; and the main obstacles it faces.
The two parties agreed to enhance joint cooperation with a view to achieving common goals including the provision of assistance to those in need and promoting PRCS’s work to enable it to provide optimum services to Palestinians. They also discussed social and humanitarian conditions in Palestine, mainly in the Gaza Strip, as well as means to develop and promote programs capable of lifting the burden off the shoulders of Palestinians, to provide them with all possible support and to ensure they receive adequate humanitarian and social services.
Mr. Bensiali valued the efforts made by PRCS despite limited resources and huge difficulties, mainly due to the Israeli occupation. He admired the services provided by the Society and showed great interest in coordinating the entry of medical supplies and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through the Egyptian Red Cross Society, the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization and IFRC on the one hand, and through ICRC to ensure the entry of such items from the West Bank on the other hand.
