Dr. Al Khatib inaugurates a dialysis section at Al Quds hospital in Gaza

(Gaza, 25-8-2011): PRCS President Dr. Younis Al Khatib inaugurated the new dialysis section at PRCS Al Quds hospital in Gaza City thanks to funds from the Moroccan Bayt al Mal Agency. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Irfan Sulejmani, Head of ICRC in Gaza as well as by representatives from IFRC and the Turkish Red Crescent Society.

 

Following the inauguration ceremony, Al Khatib toured Al Quds hospital and Al Noor Medical City where he visited the X-ray, MRI and EMS sections, outpatient clinics, operation rooms and the laboratory. He also visited the EMS Center, the central PRCS medicine warehouses, the Psycho Social Center and the Primary Health Care Center in Gaza city.

 

Upon his arrival in the Gaza Strip, Al Khatib had visited PRCS/Jabalia, stopping at the branch’s EMS center, Primary Health Care Center and Psycho Social Center where he was briefed about the psychosocial support program which targets children affected by current events. Al Khatib took part in a number of activities with these children to whom he also distributed gifts and toys. He was also briefed about the Bridge of Love program which provides psychosocial support to women and which benefited around 18 000 women and children this year alone. He was also briefed about progress made by the Risk Mitigation Program in the Northern Gaza Governorate.

 

Al Khatib also visited PRCS/Deir el Balah where he discussed mechanisms to improve the performance of clinics with a view to enhancing humanitarian action and branch services. He also visited PRCS/Rafah and was briefed about work and activities at its EMS center.

 

At PRCS Al Amal city for Rehabilitation & Ability Development which is located in Khan Younis, Al Khatib met several disabled persons and distributed in-cash aid to 100 families. He also visited PRCS Al Amal hospital and checked the progress of construction works initiated by PRCS with a view to developing the center and its services.

 

At the end of the visit, a collective Iftar (fast breaking meal) was organized in honor of Dr. Al Khatib at Al Amal City. The Iftar was attended by several members of PRCS Administrative Committees as well as by a large number of PRCS staff and volunteers, disabled persons and PRCS humanitarian partners.
